The need for encryption
Since the first armies took to the field without on-site direction, the first empires began to colonize beyond walking distance, and the first entrepreneurs began to trade outside a local marketplace, there has been a need to move vital or proprietary information securely from one location to another. With the passage of time, the methods used to protect the confidentiality of these communications have become ever more complex. The recent spate of data thefts NOT perpetrated by unauthorized access to company or government networks but rather by theft of portable devices or laptops has highlighted the need for data encryption on these devices.

Why Padlock?
Padlock is not just a file encryption algorithm. Padlock is a full-blown file security management system. Padlock permits the user to add, remove, copy and open or run any type of file from a single, easy-to-use interface, and with a single password set by the user that is NOT available in any form ANYWHERE, except inside the user's head. Sure, there are lots of file encryption algorithms on the market, and lots of programs to secure your valuable data... maybe even one or two with better encryption (no false claims here). What sets Padlock apart is a combination of features;

small footprint to fit well on flash drives and other media,
excellent security,
file management features,
ability to encrypt ANY type of file.

How does Padlock Work?
Without getting too technical, Padlock presents the user with a login window, where the password is entered. If the managed directory is empty, the user is presented with the file manager window, and is allowed to add files to the managed directory. If the directory is not empty, the password is used to attempt decryption of a filename. If the decryption is successful, the file manager window is presented, with decrypted filenames listed. The user is then permitted access to the files themselves for opening (if the user has the proper application installed), copying, adding, or deleting. The login window only allows three access attempts at a time, for added security, then shuts down.
